Tools: Tree[d]

Now with 3D wind.
Digital orchard, grow forests of procedural low resolution 3d trees for free. Includes a bunch of textures and runs as standalone or plugs in to their Gile[s] app apparently, hugely useful for the busy mapper. Game resolution output for current gen engines is quite feasible.

Grab it here immediately. It's extremely functional, generates awesome output and will likely save huge slabs of time.

  1. This has nothing to do with trees, but I think that textures like the ones in this program are perfect for maps... look at "Wood02", to me that looks like the perfect mountain map with cliff edges to the left and to the right.

Anyways... about that program, I wish it had a zoom and a export to gif so you can see the animation in gif format.

  2. BZ2 1.6 supports both the .x format and animation for props now, grab this it's sick.

  3. I'll be using to punch out LOD trees for MAD I expect, top level models can be as high resolution as you want, then you can just selectively switch off the bits you want to LOD out and save the reduced geometry. Automatic face culling for LOD generation makes a total mess of trees...
